After sharing clues on her social media throughout the morning, the Colombian singer's fans gave it their best shot at guessing the `title` of her new song and the artist she's featuring. The first fan to resolve the mystery would get a personal message on Instagram from Shakira confirming the correct answer.
The first clue was a picture of Shak wearing a magician's hat and holding a rabbit. Her caption: "Abracadabra!"
Third clue: Shakira holding a poster with a photo of Alejandro Sanz + TA + G. Her caption reads: "I hope you guys been paying attention to the clues I’ve been posting today. I will `send` a DM to one of the first to correctly guess the `name` of my new single and the artist I’ve collaborated with. Post your guesses in the `comments` below, and keep an eye on your Insta inbox."
In the `message` sent to the fan who guessed correctly, Shakira explains: "Magic was the `name` of my first album ever and also Maluma's. The crown is Maluma's tattoo. And lastly, 'Chan' is Alejandro Sanz's nickname, plus you add the 'TA' and the G sound at the end."
Shak and Maluma also shared with their millions of followers on social media the artwork for their single.
A few months ago, both Colombian superstars shared photos together on social media - although neither had confirmed a collaboration. Recently, Maluma released the remix to Shakira and Carlos Vives' summer hit "La Bicicleta."
Colombian musical royalty unite.
The ever-prolific, ever truthful hip-having Queen of Laundry Service Shakira is returning to us shortly with a brand new single called "Chantaje" — and she's got a very special, very popular special friend joining in on the fun: reggaeton prince Maluma.
Shaki painstakingly teased the long-rumored collaboration on her Instagram yesterday via a series of clues, which one fan accurately guessed: one involving magic (the title of both of their debut albums), one with Maluma's crown tattoo, and one using Alejandro Sanz's nickname "Chan" in a word puzzle. (She doesn't make this easy)
In fact, she's still going today with the teases: "The first person to guess the duration of Chantaje will be the first to receive my new single artwork!" she announced earlier today (Oct. 26).
And already, we've got the winning fan — and a sultry photo of the two to boot.
This won't be the first time the two pair up musically, either: Maluma supplied a verse on Shakira's "La Bicicleta" with Carlos Vives, another Colombian pairing, earlier this year.
Shakira's last studio album, her self-titled Shakira, was released in 2014.
Bring on the blackmail — that's what "chantaje" is, by the way.
Shakira Joins Forces With Latin Superstar Maluma On “Chantaje”
Well, that didn’t long! In early September Shakira revealed that she was working on new music with fellow Colombian pop star Maluma. “Prepare yourself for what we’re cooking up in the studio,” is a rough translation of the caption she used for a selfie with the frequently-shirtless crooner on Instagram. He then posted a couple of studio pics to get fans really excited. Approximately six weeks have passed and the collaboration now has a `title` — “Chantaje” (Spanish for “Blackmail”) — and a release date. This Friday, to be exact.
The woman with the truthful hips has released more than her fair share of high `profile` collaborations (Beyonce duet “Beautiful Liar” and Rihanna-assisted bop “Can’t Remember To Forget You,” for starters), so why is this such a big deal? Well, Maluma is currently the hottest `name` in Latin pop. He’s generating the kind of heat Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias `did` before crossing over and already has a massive US following. This is the Spanish-language equivalent of Beyonce and Justin Bieber joining forces. Excitingly, they are rumored to be working on an English version of the song. We’ll know more later this week.
Shakira Announces Duet with Maluma
The singer decided to play a little game with her fans by posting different `photos` of herself that served as clues to guess the `title` of her new song and who she would be working with. First, Shakira posted a photo of herself with a magician's hat and captioned it:
"Abracadabra!" Then she posted a selfie with a drawing of a crown and wrote: "Selfie of the day. Nothing special or maybe?" The last clue was a photo of her with a poster that had a photo of Alejandro Sanz + TA + G. Her captioned reads: "I hope you guys been paying attention to the clues I’ve been posting today. I will send a DM to one of the first to correctly guess the name of my new single and the artist I’ve collaborated with. Post your guesses in the comments below, and keep an eye on your Insta inbox."
Her fans were able to guess that the name of the new single is "Chantaje" and she would be featuring Maluma. Shakira explained what each of the clues meant: "Magic was the name of my first album ever and also Maluma's. The crown is Maluma's tattoo. And lastly, 'Chan' is Alejandro Sanz's nickname, plus you add the 'TA' and the G sound at the end."
Maluma and Shakira had been dropping some hints on `social` media after they posted `photos` of each other and he recently released his remix to "La Bicicleta."
